What is Kiwanis?

Mission: "Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time."

We are the largest service club in Alexandria, Virginia, and we areconstantly seeking to enlarge and expand our membership.

Who do we Serve?

The Kiwanis Club of Alexandria dates back many years. For over nine decades, the Alexandria Club has focused on the country's most important resource - the youth, and more specifically, the youth in Alexandria.

Our club serves the children of our community and globally in a variety of ways. We support youth leadership organizations in the schools through Key Clubs at TC Williams and Edison High School, a Builder's Club at GW Middle School, and the adoption of John Adams Elementary School. We also support an Aktion Club for the intellectually disadvantaged at St. Coletta's in Alexandria. Through these clubs we promote leadership training and community service for Alexandria's youth.

The combined efforts of the Kiwanis Club of Alexandria and our affiliated Alexandria Kiwanis Foundation funnel between $70,000-$80,000 per year to the youth organizations and other community educational and charitable organizations primarily serving the children of Alexandria or Northern Virginia. Our members participate in several fundraisers during the year to raise a large portion of these funds.

In addition, the club organizes a variety of hands-on projects during the year such as kettle collection for the Salvation Army, participation in the Children's Miracle Network Fund Telethon, providing food for Christ House, fishing day for Alexandria Recreation Center, and a joint concert the National Symphony Orchestra and the John Adams Elementary School Orff Ensemble.

Kiwanis will meet your desire for participation in a service organization that provides service through member involvement. Naturally, you will get out of Kiwanis what you put into it. Whether you commit your valuable time on a continual basis or a once a year type event, your commitment will be repaid many-fold in the service to others.
